"Celebration of Champions" HS Volleyball/Girls CC Banquet
Panhandle FCA is proud to announce that it will host our annual "FCA Celebration of Champions" high school volleyball and girls cross-country banquet, Sunday, October 22, 2017. This event will be a celebration of character and integrity of those who play and coach volleyball and cross-country in the Texas Panhandle! Varsity players & runners (those who played or ran at least 75% of the season on the varsity roster, varsity coaches, and executive school administration are invited to this event. NO split varsity, sub-varsity, or junior high players, parents (with one exception - see below), or general public are invited to this event.
This year, we are honored to have Kori Cooper Clements, as our keynote speaker. Kori is a 2005 graduate of Amarillo High who played four years of collegiate volleyball at the University of Nebraska, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2009 and 2011, respectively. During her playing career, she earned multiple All-Big 12 First Team, All-Region VII and Academic All-Big 12 awards while helping the Cornhuskers to the 2006 National Championship.
After earning her degrees, Clements returned home to coach and teach at Amarillo High from 2012-2014. As an assistant varsity coach, she helped the Lady Sandies to the 2013 4A State Championship. She was hired at Grapevine High School in July 2014 and spent two years directing their volleyball program. Under her guidance, the Lady Mustangs posted a combined 66-31 record in 2014 and 2015, winning area championships both seasons. For her efforts, she was named the Texas District 6-5A Coach of the Year both seasons.
Kori Clements is in her first year as the Director of Volleyball Operations for the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. She was hired by head coach Tony Graystone in the spring of 2017.
Clements is recently married to her husband, George. The couple have a dog, Rawlings, and are avid runners.
Because we are honoring the players and coaches of all varsity teams in the Panhandle, there will be NO COST to any attendees for this event. Each year we will bring in a high profile speaker of excellence to encourage and motivate all who hear their uplifting and life-giving words.
The only requirement for every team that attends this event is we will ask all the players from each team to elect one player as their "FCA MVP." We will be sending all coaches the criteria for this election and the winning player will be selected by the majority vote of his teammates. The selection criteria will center around the Four (4) Core Values of FCA which are: Integrity, Teamwork, Serving, and Excellence. All the selected FCA MVPs will be highly honored during this event, and each will walk away with an FCA MVP award. At some point during the evening, a picture will be taken with each team's MVP, their Head Coach, and our speaker. We anticipate that all MVP winners will be featured in our local newspaper and on our local nightly news broadcasts. Each MVP's parents will also be invited to this event.
Each team needs to have a "designated" coach contact who will be responsible for keeping up with attendance commitments of players, coaches, administrators, and the MVP's parents, and who will submit these numbers to FCA at the appropriate deadline dates. This year's banquet details are as follows:
