Several times a year, Panhandle FCA, along with the WTAMU FCA, will join forces to put together a community luncheon. It will be an opportunity for all attendees to hear a great speaker from the Panhandle area, as well as a brief update on upcoming FCA events and activities, while enjoying a very good catered meal.
Our speaker for this luncheon is FCA ministry partner, and community leader, Dr. Paul Matney. Paul is a hometown Amarilloan with a storied resume. From 1972 to 1991, Matney entered Amarillo homes as a weekend weather man for KVII and KAMR. His voice could be heard over the public-address system as the announcer for baseball games at his alma mater, Amarillo High, for over 20 years. Beginning in 1973, at what was then West Texas State University, he served as an instructor and director of radio and television, until 1979, when he joined the faculty at Amarillo College. There he then spent 35 years as an instructor, professor, dean, and as president beginning in 2009. After announcing his retirement from AC in 2014, the Amarillo College Board of Regents voted unanimously to rename the Mass Media program the Matney Mass Media Program in honor of Dr. Matney's 35 years of leadership in mass communications, radio/TV, and journalism at AC.
FCA ministry partner, Chris Appel, will emcee this luncheon. Doors will open at 11:30 AM for check-in and food service. Lunch will be served until 12:20, at which time Dr. Matney will introduce our guest speaker. FCA promises the event will be finished by 12:55 PM. Cost for lunch is $13 and payment will be taken at check-in. Reservations are required and are taken on the honor system. To make a reservation, please go to Luncheon Reservation, or call the FCA office at 806.212.0771. If your plans change, and you cannot attend, you must notify us before the day of the event, otherwise, we will expect you to pay for your lunch.
